May 20, Whit Monday was a holiday in Germany and with that also in the free state of Bavaria. And it was one of the nicer-, dryer-, sunnier days in May.
So I took the opportunity for short motorbike tour. And as many would have probably thought the same, I started early, because as the proverb goes…the early wurm catches the fish….or something like that.
Quick links to the various stations of the trip:
Andechs
I started near the town of Erling, well known the Monastery of Andechs, or as the Bavarians refer to it as the “holy mountain”. If you like Biergarten, Humpapa Musik and Beer you will love Andechs. If not, you’d might be interested in the beautiful pilgrimage church located on the top of the, 700m above sea level, hill. If not, it’s a nice 50 minutes downhill walk through the forest to the town of Herrsching where you can take a boat cruise on the Ammersee.
So there are options.

Continuing further south to Hohenpeißenberg.
Hohenpeißenberg

Hohenpeißenberg used to be a mining town. The mountain Peißenberg has an elevation of 988m and is (besides the Auerberg, 1055m) the second highest elevation in the Bavarian Alpine foothills. A small and winding road takes you up to the top where you will find a nice restaurant, the pilgrimage church Mariä Himmelfahrt and the oldest mountain weather station in the world. It is the only remaining weather station of the Societas Meteorologica Palatina and has been delivering weather data since 01. January 1781.
Beside that the view, on a clear day, is just stunning.
Back in the town of Hohenpeißenberg, directly on the Main Street is a memorial addressing war, torture and suppression.
A very impressive and touching illustration from the artists Michael Pratsch and Mahmoud Alyounes – well done guys!

Continuing east to Riegsee
Riegsee
The Riegsee is a 3,3 km long and up to 600m wide lake located in the county of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Since the 20th century the region is known as Das Blaue Land. Artists like Gabriele Münter, Wassily Kandinsky, August Macke and Franz Marc came into this region and founded the artist association Blauen Reiter in Murnau.

Continuing up north – direction home.
Obersöchering
Last quick stop was in the town of Obersöchering, because you don’t see a Stork very often not to mention Stork babies, but Obersöchering has them!

That all folks.
Quick three hour motorbike tour filled with impression views, impressive art and wild life-family life on a nice sunny day.
